October 6th marked Roatan Bruce's 4th Year on Roatan Radio!

Bruce:
I have read the article and feel it is a satisfactory transcription of my interview as I recall it. Thanks for the opportunity to address myself to the Islanders on these issues, and through your participation in other media like “Honduras This Week,” to other Hondurans and people from other countries.

I wish you much success with your program!
Sincerely,
Ricardo Maduro

I just saw your website. I was compelled to write you, because I was blown away by your almost a full hour INTERVIEW WITH PRESIDENT MADURO! WOW! I have never really listened to Honduran politics before because it seemed like a lost cause of technical talk and friendship side playing. He was a good president! I wish he could be re-elected. Very wise man, and a true leader for his own definition of what a leader is. That's what Central America needs, more smart selfless leaders who aim for improvement of the overall conditions. The world needs more people like him, he speaks it as it is with true un biastness. Next time you talk to him, encourage him to run again Bruce. I'm glad I found your website. I'm going to stay tuned. excellent work, keep it up.

Thank you for the aid in spreading the word. I am up to 3000 views, and almost 800 votes.

All the best!Aaron

Hi Bruce, I'm newly registered with the Roatan group and just had the
opportunity to listen to the mayor and chief of police interview on
your show and I wanted to say that they were wonderful interviews. Our
family is going to Roatan in the middle of April to look at potential
property and learning more about the long term vision from both of
these individuals makes it more comfortable for people like us
interested in Roatan. Keep up the great work! Paul R.

Bruce,
The interview with President Ricardo Maduro for Honduras This Week is terrific.....great work! Maduro sounds like a really neat man: intelligent, well-spoken, thoughtful, etc. Thank you for this very much!

Dear HTW:

As a regular on-line reader of your newspaper, the quality of the February 25th edition compels me to comment. I'm a resident of New England, USA and soon-to-be retiree to Roatan. I read all sections of the newspaper, but have been particularly interested in the information delivered in the Travel & Tourism section. The latest edition is simply terrific. First, Don Pearly's article regarding squatters and particularly the challenges now facing developers on Roatan was first-rate. He wrote a well thought out, easy to understand, essay that delivered a good deal of real information, as well as authoritative analysis. By writing about specific development obstacles and their damaging results, rather than unsubstantiated opinion, the piece was elevated to a position of the most worthy commentary journalism.

In the same issue, it was gratifying to read Bruce Starr's news coverage of the new Canaturh board of directors. The well-reported information here is that planning for tourism development is in high-gear, thoughtful of how Roatan may expand on the international tourism stage. From what was reported in the article, someday soon, we may actually expect to see Roatan compete with other Caribbean islands for the attention of the quality world-wide tourism sector. Recognizing that the product, the most beautiful island in the Caribbean, just needs to be exposed to the right international audience. This will benefit all.

HTW is getting better and better. Keep up the great work!

All the best,

Congratulations, Bruce…this is wonderful news!

Language is an inherent part of a culture, crucial to its survival. It is the root of one’s individuality; our personality and identity. It is how we see and think about ourselves, and know who we are.

It’s vital that we all do everything we can to help this island preserve its language. Good for you! Marion Seaman

I would like to commend you on your work and service to Roatan through your program and presence. You are a GREAT asset to the community.

Comments about Hurricane Felix Coverage
from The Weather Channel and 106.5 FM

Dear Bruce,

We are writing to express our sincere appreciation for your important contribution to the community during the days of uncertainty and fear for Hurricane Felix.
In doing so we feel we are interpreting the spirit of many other grateful listeners of your RoatanBruce show.
Your professionalism and communication skills conveyed much more than updated details on the development of the storm: it conveyed the reassurance and comfort to know that someone is there for all of us to give information and guidance.

We wish we had Roatan Bruce back in 1998, by Hurricane Mitch!!
Keep up the wonderful job.
Sincerely,
Claudio, Emiliana

Well done Bruce! Especially liked your comment about
all the evacuees heading for San Pedro along with the current track of Felix! I did get annoyed with the background footage showing people wading through thigh high flood waters - where did that come from?! My
relatives in the states were going nuts - I was telling them one thing and then they turn on The Weather Channel and see something completely different.

~~~~~~~~~~~
A praise to Roatan Bruce.
Saw him on the weather Channel last night. I was not happy that they kept ignoring us and called us at times "open water." Thanks Bruce for putting us on the map!!
Hello Bruce,
A reassuring voice! The only pleasurable thing to happen last week when we were hovering over the Weather Channel during Hurricane Felix was to hear your familiar voice on the TV. What a pleasant surprise in the midst of all that!
As a former resident of Honduras, I read HTW and other Honduran papers somewhat regularly. I wanted you to know I really enjoyed your article in HTW this week regarding Little League Baseball in Roatan.
I just wanted to mention (in case you haven't already done so) to be
sure and send a link to HTW to the players interviewed. They will enjoy getting the feedback and seeing their names and faces in a Honduran paper.
Coincidentally, Jake Peavy and I are from the same home town - Mobile, Alabama.
Kind regards,
Mike Elliott
Hi Bruce,
Just wanted to thank you for your time in allowing us to ·plug· the Bay Islands Community Clinics and the new construction. I have heard from several persons that they like the interview so you do have quite a listening audience. It was kind of you to assist us in trying to build a better healthcare system.
We met you a couple of times at the "crab races" with Cam and Ted, back in December-January.
We are going to be back in Roatan, June 9th.
Looking forward to seeing you and your family at the crab races.
Hi Bruce,
Although somewhat late, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you a very Happy 2007 and at the same time, thank you for your contributions to the newspaper during my almost 11 months at HTW. They are nothing but invaluable - none of your articles could obviously be done by the rest of the staff. I am aware that I don't always give you much feedback so I want you to know that you are very much appreciated.
All the best,
A Good bye Magic e-mail:
Roatan Bruce our Forever Friend
Sometimes in life, you find a special friend, such a friend is Roatan Bruce. Someone who has changed our life just by being a part of it. Someone who makes you laugh until you can't stop. Someone who makes you believe that there really is good in the world. Someone who convinces you that there really is an unlocked door just waiting for you to open. This is forever friendship. Bruce, our forever friend, lifts your mid-day spirit up and makes that dark and empty world suddenly seem bright and full. With your radio broadcast you have given us fun times, sad times and confused times. Roatan Bruce is such a friend, his last show today saddens us, but we know that this is not the end. As a forever friend, remember forever has no end.
Dear Roatan Bruce,
We are writing to you on behalf of everybody here at Cayos Cochinos, Plantation Beach Resort. Since October 2003, we have been hooked on everything your show provides. It is perfect for those of us working the dive operation, being able to hear you as soon as we surface from the dive at eleven o'clock, listen to your commentary until our second dive, and then continuing to listen for the remainder of the show when we surface yet again to hear your classic 'Don't Worry Be Happy.'
Today as we readily listened through the two initial songs at eleven, we were soon heart-broken. Hearing the potential conclusion to your show devastated all of us, who have ardently supported the Roatan Bruce show from the beginning. Upon returning from the dives, we rushed to the office in order to inform ourselves on the complete story of your departure. I don't think words can describe the amount of relief that rushed through us as we discovered we'd be able to continue hearing our favourite radio personality! And not only would we be able to continue listening on the dive boat, but now we'll be able to listen from Cayos, as well as when we are doing business in La Ceiba! Not only does your show compel us with the latest information in and around Roatan and the Bay Islands , but brings smiles to our faces hearing the rest of your light-hearted attitude.
Knowing that we can continue to hear your stimulating interviews, as well as some of the finest music our world has to offer is compellingly uplifting to all of us at Cayos Cochinos, Plantation Beach Resort. You can be assured that we will be listening tomorrow, as well as your final show on Magic 107.7. If it would be possible to get a Roatan Bruce Hello on either of these days during your initial eleven o'clock hour to your friends here at Cayos Cochinos, it would be fantastic, to know we had our small part in supporting the show at Magic 107.7.
We hope to hear from you soon, and can't wait to hear more of the Roatan Bruce we've grown to love at 106.5.
Sincerely,
All your friends, fans, and supporters at Cayos Cochinos
P.S. If it's possible, we would love to have a request for Barry White. The owner here at Plantation Beach Resort, Jack Tomlin, will be listening tomorrow during your first hour, and Barry White would be a very special dedication to him
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hello Bruce,We are certainly going to miss the 11:00 hour daily on 107.7. We listened everday. Sometimes we called in, but mostly listened to the great interviews and your heart always on the island pulse. The music was always great. I don't know how 107.7 is going to replace you. You were worth a lot more than bargined for. We will now continue to listen to your new station and challenges on 106.5. Thanks for a great show.

Congrats on the $3,000 raised on the fundraiser to help the hospital and on your new job! I'm happy to know you are still in Roatan giving great info via the radio there on the island. Keep up the good work!

A recent e-mail on July 12th:

Bruce,
Because of people like you and concerned people like Judith Allred, your article in "Honduras This Week" hit home with me. I am currently building a house on Roatan and plan to semi retire there in the very near future. If there is one concern that my wife and I have it is the availability of good health care. We have visited the island 4 times now and every visit we have scouted out the medical facilities. It seems as though they have improved somewhat over the years.

It is our pleasure to donate money to the Clinica Esperanza. We will continue to support the clinic. Both my wife and I are in health care in the states. My wife is a Registered Nurse and has been for 30 years. I am the Director of Nutritional Services at another local hospital. It is my wife's intention to donate time to the clinic when we do retire to the island. It is also my intention to do what I can to help improve the health care facilities on Roatan.

I hope that your article/letter hit home with more people like it did with me. Please tell Nurse Peggy to hang in there.
Sincerly,
George and Gayleen Paras

A recent remark made on July 1st:

Dear Bruce,
We were in Roatan about 4 weeks ago to visit our two sons, Robb and Jay Lawson, who live with their wives and children in West Bay. We frequently visit Roatan, about 8 times last year. We always enjoy listening to your show. We especially love the weather reports. As soon as we get into the car we turn the radio to your station. We look forward to hearing you again.
Sincerely,
Sissy Lawson, former Mayor of Gainesville, Georgia
Bobby Lawson, former State Representative of Georgia

Dear Bruce

I've been keeping in touch with some recent developments in the islands through your website. It really is so useful for researchers to have access to such material. I'm writing a chapter on "English in Honduras" for a book coming out sometime late in 2006. My credentials for this are basically the research I did in the early 1990's on the island English. The editor has asked for some sections on present day matters such as education, and the media. May I say how much I enjoy your interviews. Just hearing some of the voices takes me back to 1992, when I was there. It was the best time of my life, in spite of being all swollen up with sandfly bites!

All best wishes

Hi Bruce,

It is my 2nd year as a visitor to West Bay and have been here for the past month. I plan on returning next December & January depending on finding a solution to the bug bite problem. I have been listening to your show & what a wonderful service to the visitor & resident alike! You need bumper stickers on all the taxi's!

I went on your web site & found the info on the "Irradication Project", Is it still going on? MY BIG QUESTION is - is there a simular product to pietroid for individual use or can we be trained to help irradicate our own space? Thanks & I hope you can help,

Hi Bruce,

I just wanted to congratulate you on your program today. I heard the lady speak about AIDS and how it can affect our lives. I wish you would continue having these guests. It would be great if this information is spread throughout our schools here on the island. I'm sure the teenagers would appreciate this, and if they don't, it will be a wake up call for them. Thank you for doing a great job with your program.

Bruce have a good trip. You deserve it. Sounds like quite a family
reunion and such. I will attend the US Ambassador's gathering to see what he has in store.

Can you believe the stuff about the UAE taking over the ports and then they advise people that there is no security threat. My mother always told me you make your bed and you sleep in it. Hell of a way to make a bed Huh????

And the Roatan groups have got to go. Your story about that lady and the paranoia is incredible. I think if you don't like it here then leave otherwise enjoy it and shut up. Love your show. Great
place to get information.

Dear Bruce,
I absolutely died and went to Heaven over your
excellent show last Wednesday! (All Motown ol'
school!!) I have NEVER enjoyed a radio station
offering as much as I did with your production!! I was reeling down memory lane that whole day. Could you play a
Gladys Knight song and dedicate it
to Marieta Webster from her friend Suki Thomas? I know
she would be so touched. Keep up the excellent show!
You were a big help when I was stuck with a truck to
sell a year or so ago.
Keep up the great show!

Good afternoon Bruce:

I have been meaning to write to you for some time and tell you what a great asset I think you are to the island. I have seen folks and changes come and go over a good many years, but your show is doing more than I suspect even you realize for the island community.

I am very pleased you are there and just wish I could tune in when I am back home here in North Carolina,

All the best...David Evans,

Roatan Bruce,

I want you to know how pleased I am with the advertising you are doing for me on your show. Since we started, I have so much more business, it has been a challenge to handle the volume. Some of my old customers have come back and many new ones have come around. I want you to know that I am going to be a sponsor of your show for a long time to come. Thanks for the good work you are doing.

Bruce, I am very happy for the interview you did with Mr Hurlston, the Mayor of Guanaja. It is about time we got a mayor that is thinking about Guanaja and its people. Please be on top of the mayor and try and advise, guide him along the way. Guanaja is a little jewel of Central America. Please keep me informed.
Sincerely yours, Maria Scott Kunins

Hi Bruce,

I continue to follow what is happening with you and the station online. After the fire at hole in the wall, you are using the station to bring people together to help. Good for you!!!!!!!

This is what radio is all about. Here in Buffalo, many stations only play music and give away prizes to build ratings, but they don't make much difference to the community. We try to raise money for charities at my station, but often times, community help falls to ratings.

It is amazing the power you have to bring people together. Keep up the good work.

Chris.

Hi Roatan Bruce,
As I told you when we first met that I'm a faithful listener of the Roatan Bruce show. I enjoy the music, the public announcements are always SO necessary and the interviews with all that NEED TO KNOW info.

This is so helpful to all of us here in the Bay Islands and specially on Roatan. I want to congratulate you and our Congressman Mr. Evans Mc Nab on that great interview you did with him. The last time he was on, I missed the show but I sure enjoyed hearing all of what he had to say in this last interview. It was all so positive. This is all possible because you take the time to bring your show to the English speaking visitors and the bi-lingual community of the Bay Islands.

By the way I won one of your Roatan Bruce anniversary T shirts a few weeks ago. That's when we first met. Thank you again for your show and I think I can speak for all of us listeners when I say ·WE LOVE IT.·

Sincerely, Jeff Godfrey

Hey Bruce,
Digging your show and station something bad man!!!!
I used to work at a twin stick with a classic 60 70 80 theme.
Your tunes are better than their mix by far.

Hi Bruce,

I have been in Roatan for vacations. What a nice show you have. The island is really relaxing, but staying there listening to the music you play made me go back in time.
